Sossusvlei and Zambezi Queen (5/6 nights)
This is a crafty itinerary that combines the arid Sossusvlei desert in Namibia with the water-based Zambezi Queen on the Chobe – an absolute magnificent combination!
This combination starts in Windhoek where you will depart with a transfer via the Spreetshoogte Pass and Solitaire to your lodge on the border of the Namib Desert. This is the oldest desert on earth formed some 5 million years ago, a breath-taking sea of sand and dunes that can reach up to 220 metres high. Due to early morning fog from the coast, this arid place is home to a surprising array of creatures which benefit from the moisture. You arrive at the lodge and enjoy the tranquillity of this remote desert setting.
To take full advantage of the magnificent play of early morning light on the dunes, you will leave the lodge at 05:00 and arrive at Sesriem gate at sunrise. Your drive takes you through commanding vistas of the Tsauchab River Valley towered over by dunes; then explore Sossusvlei, a clay pan set amid the dunes. This is the perfect spot to climb some of the highest sand dunes in the world. Stop for breakfast before heading off to the dramatic Sesriem Canyon carved out of the local sedimentary rock over aeons by the Tsauchab River. You return for lunch at the lodge and spend the afternoon relaxing and soak up the sweeping views across the open plains. Later join a guided nature sunset drive to the Marble Mountains.
On day three you leave the lodge after breakfast and make your way via Remhoogte Pass heading back to Windhoek. Here the remainder of the afternoon will be at leisure and we recommend an afternoon tour of Namibia’s capital and dinner at the infamous Joe’s Beerhouse before returning back to the Olive Exclusive where you will overnight this evening.
Day four you will board an Air Namibia flight to Victoria Falls from where you will be transferred to Kasane in Botswana, joining the Zambezi Queen here.
